Chris is one of the country’s leading plantsmen, landscape architects and broadcasters and Sarah and I are so excited to be welcoming him to Rodmarton!
With his usual entertaining manner Chris will take us through the evolution of the English Garden style with emphasis on the development of the herbaceous border, from the earliest incarnations through to 21st century examples. He describes the key exponents of the style, the design approaches, and lessons behind the artistry so that you feel empowered to combine plants and create your own stunning border. Celebrated Designer, Plantsman and Broadcaster Chris has clocked up over 35 years of experience in the horticultural world. Many of you will know Chris from his long broadcasting career, which began in 1997 and includes BBC2 television series such as Gardeners’ World, Hidden Gardens and The Flying Gardener, amongst many others. These days he is heard by millions as a panelist on BBC Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time where he regularly faces a live audience of gardening enthusiasts! Chris trained in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and this enables him to combine both disciplines to the benefit of his clients. His enthusiasm for plants, good design and the desire to work in harmony with the natural landscape and wildlife is reflected throughout his work. As founder and creative director of Chris Beardshaw Design, he has led the creation of RHS Gold Medal-winning gardens, private estates, and landmark public landscapes including Le Manor aux Quat’ Saisons. He has also written a number of books including ‘100 Plants that almost changed the World’ won an Independent Publishers Award in the USA. Chris is proud to be an RHS Ambassador.
